VERAZ Song - Xenophobia!!

VERAZ

Xenophobia

How can I be an alien?
If I am an African

I see them fighting with all the people
Can’t you see u making them evil?
I see all this propaganda
And this thing called Xenophobia

How can I be an alien?
If I am an African

I see them taking all our precious stones
Some big engineer taking all our gold
Can’t you leave Mama Africa alone?

How can I be an alien?
If I am an African

Oh dear people can’t you see
They don’t want us to be free
With this education
A recipe for destruction

How can I be an alien?
If I am an African

LET GO, LET GO

Author: Onai Zvandinoona, Zimbabwe

Poem LET GO, LET GO.

Thoughts scattered here and there,
My mind searches for answers a thousand times over.

Rocking back and forth,
My emotions collapse like a tidal wave.

Silently floating away,
My aspirations diffuse into the sorrow of this world.

Trembling from within, the tension rises to it's apogee, pulling me in different directions at the same time.
The fear creeps up from nowhere, suffocating my feeble soul.

Seeking to be still
Seeking to quiet my mind
Seeking to be content
Seeking to be free.

Aspiring to be at peace

SILENT VOICES

Author: Tranos Vongai Makombe, Zimbabwe

Poem SILENT VOICES

Silent voices seldom heard
Hang upon unspoken words
Walking down the streets of fear
Crying out yet no one hears
Begging for help without a sound
Searching for faith that’s never found
Rarely making their own choices
Broken are these silent voices

Silent voices seldom heard
Stripped of freedom, caged like birds
Are stricken dumbfound day by day.
They’re running out of things to say.
Recalling a comfortable past
Heading towards ruin fast
Compressed down to echoed noises
Broken are these silent voices

ZIMFEST 08: Finally! A Charity Fundraiser Concert For Zimbabwe

The newspaper seller stood on the corner of the shallow steps within the hall of the Baxter Theatre while they flitted back and forth in preparation for the show. A benefit show for displaced refugees. He was a South African. On the floor beside him lay a stack of papers, following the newspaper vendor's creed of never holding more in your hands than you're going to sell before your next trip to the depot. Ink can be heavy, and words can be loaded.
